Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2

Through these interviews, I found that certain people who share a lot in common with the others in my opportunity but fall outside of the boundary.  This was mainly elderly people. While they had the same unmet need of needing a way to find their lost pets, some may fall outside the boundary because they struggle with technology and websites.  It would be difficult for them to upload pictures and navigate a computer.
What: The need I identified is a resource for finding lost pets.  Interviews cemented that this is a pretty distinct need, but it could be mixed with the need for a pet sitter to appease their employers.  It could also be mixed with a need for kids to avoid reprimand from their parents.
Why:  The underlying cause of the outsiders need is not different than the people inside the boundary.  The problem is accessibility and ease of use.

Inside the Boundary
People who have lost their pets
Their need is a resource to find their lost pets
The need exists because pet owners who have lost their pets are terrified and often do not know what additional steps they can take to find their pets

Outside the boundary
People who do not own pets, elderly pet owners, kids that are too young to know how to use computers

Not everyone is fluent with technology and would struggle with using a website.

  1. Pablo, technological difficulties would definitely be an issue for your opportunity. If an individual isn't able to use technology they are basically outside of the boundary of your opportunity. Overall, I think that your opportunity is a good idea, but there could perhaps be innovations to include more people that are outside the boundary. Maybe even things that make it easier for technology to be used to locate their lost pets.

  2. If someone is elderly and technologically challenged, then they would definitely fall outside the boundary since your entire idea is based around navigating a website. However, you might be able to reach them in indirect ways. If you can get popular with a young or middle aged audience, then the elderly will call their children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, etc., for help in finding the pet. Something to consider.

  3. Pablo,

This sounds something that could be very helpful and it have the chance of saving many people's pet. Many people loss their pets everyday and it is a big problem. It can really affects people life and I understand why you would want to do something about it. The flaw is that it needs to be known by a lot of people to be helpful. It should be something that when people loss their pets they know where to check. It would need a lot of publicity. I think you need to make it in a way that it would be the first time people would check when they loss of find their pet. I lost one of my pets when I was a kid and there was no way for us to know where he was. I understand the struggle. Good luck with your project!

  4. The things that you mentioned all seem to play an important part in the product for animals. Technology is used often in society today and it is important that the people that use this product are at least familiar with how this technology is being used. also technology would be helpful with this product because you would need to advertise it in some way.

  5. - I found it interesting that you too found elderly people to be outside of your boundary, in my “testing the hypothesis” I also came across this, and for the same reasons as you. It is a fact that the older generations are not as tech friendly or as comfortable using the internet as we are. But I think you did a great job with the assignment, I just wish you attached the link to the interviews.
